205mm width?

Featured Replies

hay looking for some new tyres on my 2005 fiesta 1.4 zetec.

can i fit 205mm width r15 tyres on the car without issue?

on the 5 point alloys

opens up more tyre options overall.

many thanks.

Are you trying to fit these tyres to the standard 15" wheels? You can technically do it, but you wont find many places that recommend it. Changing the width of the tyre without changing the width of the rim messes with the contact patch of the tyre. I'm sure Ford fitted a 195mm tyre for a reason so I wouldn't go messing with it.

With a 205mm tyre, you'd also be changing the circumference of the wheel. 205/45/r15 leaves a circumference of 1.8% too small and 205/50/r15 leaves a circumference that is 1.8% too large. This then means your speedo will by out by that percentage.

Don't think your insurance would be very pleased with that.

Less wet weather grip, tendency to trip over the tyres, loss of steering precision. Very few cars need more rubber. Most are over tyred for fashion. Fitting 205s will make the car much less enjoyable to drive and not as safe.
