New member Air bag light on

Featured Replies

Hi Folks, I am new on here, we have just bought a 2009 1.25 Zetec 3 door in Hot Magenta for our son , it’s a great car , had done 52k with 2 owners . We have had the car for about 4 months and has been great. 2 weeks ago I took a ***** if it to pop to the shops , I only had one bag so just put the seat forward and put the bag on the rear seat , put the front seat back and when I started the car up the Air bag light came on and also said “ Airbag malfunction” on the computer in the middle . A friend scanned it for me and came up with “ Drivers side airbag/crash sensor fault “. I have changed that sensor ( the one behind the seat belt mechanism ) but it’s still coming up with the fault . I have checked the plug and wiring under the seat and all looks good .

i really hope some of you can help get this sorted ( I have faith in you all)

could it be something in the seat ?

Hope you can help and looking forward to hearing from you guys

thanjs again 👍👍👍

Can any of you helpful people help me please , many thanks, Gordon

Almost certainly just the plugs under the seat.  They're the only part that would have moved when you put the seat forward.  How did you check them, just visually?

Hi Tom, yes I checked the plug on the seat and the cables going into the back of it and they all looked fine, I also checked the plug coming from the car loom and all wires look fine . Is there anything else I can do?, many thanks again, Gordon

The plugs work loose over time but still look fine.  Then when you move the seat they suddenly break the circuit but still look ok.  You can check for power at the plug with a mulitmeter to make sure the circuit is complete up to the plug at least.  If that's ok, I try to bend/squeeze the connector pins a little bit to make a better contact.

Just a note about the multimeter, don't make a resistance check through an airbag or pre-tensioner as the meter sends a little current through the system, shouldn't be enough to trigger them but better safe than sorry lol.
