Car will only crank 3 times- safety feature?

Hey everyone, I have a Mk7  8v 1.6 tdci fiesta zetec s that is having problems starting.  

I've had this car as a project for months never running and I've replaced the engine and ECU kit but still no luck. The car will crank 3 times and cut out and needs the key removing and reinserting to try again. Has anyone had this issue or could tell me why the car only cranks a few times?

 

P.s. I've changed the fuel filter, checked glow plugs and changed the crankshaft sensor so they're all genuine ford parts but I'm at a loss at what else could be the issue
