Can you drive PowerShift on an Automatic driving license?

Featured Replies

Not sure if PowerShift is officially classed as an automatic transmission or not, as Ford seem to sell cars with PowerShift and automatic transmissions.

The definition of automatic for driving licence purposes is basically something without a clutch pedal. So conventional torque converter boxes, dual clutch boxes such as Ford Powershift, VW DSG etc, and CVT as increasingly used in hybrids, are all classed as automatics.

Yeah, just don't get caught using the paddles! 😮

I have flappy paddles on my semi-automatic 2019 EcoSport.

Are flappy paddles not "allowed" on an automatic license?

My previous 2012 Peugeot 308 semi-automatic also had flappy paddles.

I was only joking.  As Roger says, if there's no clutch then it's driven as an auto so fine for an auto licence.

Powershift is just Ford's term for their electronic clutch gearboxes, like dsg is for vw/Audi.

And yes, anything where you don't have a clutch pedal is an automatic for driving licence purposes.
