Galaxy mk3 door loom repair

Featured Replies

I'm not sure if there are any other posts about this relatively common issue but I'd like to post my findings to hopefully help other owners.  In a nutshell,  drivers door window failing was the first sign, then no central locking, and apparent lack of power to the whole door.  This all happened at maccies drive thru in the rain!.  So I started to find the damaged wire, thinking I would have to strip the loom out, knowing it would be where the loom flexs from the door pillar.  Before I removed the door card, I attacked the rubber gait in the door pillar.  Awkward to get to yes,  but once you know how to disconnect it, easy.  Please study the photos.

Pillar side.  There is a clip to push down at the top, hidden by the gaiter.  The gaiter does not separate from the plug.  Then pull at the top and wiggle it up and out.  The main car loom comes out with it, push clip and disconnect.   Then you can separate the gaiter from the plug via the clip at the top then the bottom.  Push the gaiter back to reveal the plug, and to my surprise, my broke spade connector.  I managed to separate the grey bit from the main plug and remove the damaged spade from the plug without damaging anything.

I soldered it back up, clipped it all back together and all mended, amazing.

Just as a note,  the gaiter on the door side is just the rubber pushed in around the lip.

I hope other people find this useful,  if nothing else the pictures might help.

Thank you
