Head Unit Upgrade

Featured Replies

I want to upgrade my head unit inside my car, but want some opinions about it first.

I am thinking about buying this or another one thats similar, have any of you bought these or know of anyone that has?

is this a worth while upgrade?

Also I am thinking about fitting some lighting in the car which is app controlled, which I should be able to control by this?

Looks a little out of place, as if someone has glued a tabled to the dashboard. It also makes all of the controls underneath completely redundant afaik, there's no integration without some nerding.

Unfortunately due to the dash layout of the mk7 it's very hard to get an aftermarket unit that looks good.

In terms of specs, 1GB of RAM is very low. My android unit is 4GB and an 8-core processor. Even that can occasionally struggle with having Google maps open and DAB playing in the background. The 1gb units are a little laggy when swiping the menus etc.

I don't have that exact dash, but yeah I can kinda see what you mean about it making the controls useless, this is my dash, but the top part is like the same

This is my aftermarket 7" touchscreen originally I had the sony radio you posted above. As you can see it removes all redundant buttons and the touchscreen is within a comfortable arms reach the unit above looks further back on the dash so may need to lean forward to reach the touchscreen

That looks decent and better than the ones I have been looking at, how much was this one?

Any standard double din aftermarket radio will fit in that housing all the adaptors and trim pieces cost around £150 plus the cost of the radio
