Folding seat stuck

Featured Replies

The folding seat in my Fiesta has just got stuck. I folded the drivers side rear down to put a stepladder in (which it swallows just about!) but when I went to fold it back the button got jammed down and the catch is stuck open so I can’t latch it back into position. I can manually close the catch, but if I push the button to open it again to latch it it jams again. Any ideas?

Ford build quality...

Can you see the part that's sticking?  I'm sure it'll just need a bit of lube. White grease is best but WD40 would do.

I know, and just before the inevitable lockdown too! I did give it a bit of WD-40, but not much so will have another go tomorrow. These folding seats are about the cheapest and most flimsy things I’ve seen on a new car!

Some of us are already in Tier 4 anyway.

The Mk6 tilt mechanism was crap as well lol.  Maybe they've strengthened those and had to cut costs on the rears!

The WD-40 left overnight worked perfectly. Nice simple fix, and I’ll have to remember not to push it too hard next time!

Silly question but mine is doing the exact same, how do I manually close the catch so that it locks in?

I had to push it about with a flat blade screwdriver and lots of WD-40 iirc.
