Limp mode

Featured Replies

I have a 1.6, 2007 focus. A couple days ago the red light popped and and message saying I have a fault. I took it to a garage and his diagnostic computer say 3 errors... x2 DPF and 1 glow plugs.

The car starts fine, on the button everything so I'm thinking it's not the glow plugs.

I've been told the focus gets DPF msg when there is a problem with the EGR?

I'm not a mechanic and I can't be paying £60PH for them to find the fault. He is convinced it's the glow plugs but to pay £230 for him to change them and I could have the same problem doesn't excuse me!

Can anyone help, please????

The car runs fine every time you start it but only for 10 metres and then its back into limp mode.

I would say you're right not to go with glow plugs. After the car has been running for 10 seconds or so the glow plugs will switch off anyway. I have run a car happily with 3 plugs no good.

However you're DPF is probably the issue when they fill they will put back pressure on you're system.

If you paid the mechanic for a diagnosis he should have given you the results so I'm guessing you should have the codes and probably description of the faults from his reader.

Are you sure you're car is in limp or is it not able to run due to back pressure not allowing the exhaust gasses to flow?

This pressure can also put undue strain on your turbo and associated pipe work which can end up being an expensive fix. I know this cos I've been there.

You may be able to get a static regeneration of your DPF done but if it is too full it may not work, leaving you looking at a new DPF. which will have to be programmed in. again not cheap.

Luckily a 2007 Focus does give you a chance to get a used DPF if necessary. If you need a new one you may have to start looking at cost versus value.

But first things first you need them codes.

Thanks for reply. I will be cleaning the DPF this wknd as I've had a couple say the same thing now. Fingers crossed this solves the issue
