Broken Sensor Port Leaking Coolant

Featured Replies

Hi,

A sensor (or something) has broken off the front of the engine in my 58 plate Ford Fiesta (second half of 2008 for those not in the UK). The wire that was attached is now dangling free in the engine bay, it looks like the other end of the wire is attached to the radiator fan. I tried to take a few pics to make it clearer (see attached - in the first image I've balanced the connector against the port so you can see where it connects).

Firstly - I'd like to know what this sensor/thing is called so I can look into buying a replacement. Secondly - it looks like it's sheared off (there are jagged bits of metal left where the wire connects into the port), how would I go about fixing that?

that looks like the coolant temp sensor/ electric thermostat

Thanks for the reply. That makes sense as coolant leaks directly out of the port.

I've found the following replacements: https://www.autodoc.co.uk/car-parts/coolant-temperature-sensor-10653/ford/fiesta/fiesta-vi/28236-1-25

Do you know whether any of these would work? The fittings look very similar, so I'm guessing this part is universal?

Cheers again, Tom

is the sensor still connected to the wiring? if so could you take a picture of the remains of the sensor?

Hi,

I stupidly didn't get a picture of the bit that's still attached to the wires, and the car is currently at another property. I'm due to go there next weekend, so I can get another pic. I was hoping I could order something this week that I could fit next weekend, but no harm in delaying another week.

Thanks again for your help.

Hi,

I took some pictures yesterday of what's still attached to the wire (the first 3 pics). I also managed to get a better picture of the port itself (the last pic).

Looking at the replacement parts on that link I sent it looks to me like my sensor has broken in half.... not sure if you agree?

Cheers,

Tom

Its the reverse lamp switch and yes the switch has broken into 2 parts.
Ford part number should be 1435339

Thanks for your reply. I'm really confused now as the port is on what I'm assuming is the engine block (see https://i.imgur.com/47rSVFW.jpg) and coolant leaks out of the port - that doesn't sound right for a reverse lamp switch. Although I agree with you, it does look a lot like that switch!

The bit under the battery is the gearbox, it will be gear oil that is leaking from the port.

Begs the question what has caused it to break in two?

Ohhh.... that makes a lot of sense. Thanks a lot for your help, I'll order a replacement today.

I have absolutely no idea how it happened. Possibly a rock kicking up under the engine and hitting it? It looks like it's in a pretty well protected position

Just wanted to let you all know that the part got delivered last week, I fit it this weekend and it worked a treat. Thanks for your help.
