2020 ST Line X Edition (155 MHEV) questions/thoughts

Featured Replies

Hi all, after I so rudely kinda hijacked Mavroz's thread I thought I'd start my own. Got mine delivered on Wednesday, absolutely loving it so far. I have some observations and more importantly questions.

Observations..........love it, I think I picked the right colour (in my opinion) in Magnetic Grey, reminds me a little of the colour of my first Mk2 Fiesta XR2 I had back in the mid 90's.

Being 6ft2 with a 35inch inside leg I was concerned it would feel cramped especially being noticeably narrower than my last car (2017 Scirocco R Line) but I am very impressed with the space inside. Ok theres not alot of leg room behind my seat but it'll do for the odd 4 up driving which will be rare.

Engine is brilliant, this the lowest size engine I've ever owned, in fact it's 255cc smaller than the engine in my bike but I am VERY impressed at how well it picks up, especially mid throttle in 3rd gear, it absolutely flies and I'm definitely not regretting the choice. My Scirocco was 150ps TDi so I was a little worried it would feel gutless but it's got more than enough poke to put a smile on my face.

Inside seems pretty well put together, especially compared to my last Ford (2010 Focus Zetec-S) and I am impressed how good the SYNC3 system is, compared to the aging unit in my Scirocco at least.

Overall I am a happy bunny but I do have a couple of gripes/niggles that I'd like to sort. Bearing in mind it's leased so whatever I do has to be reversible and not too involved.

1. Steering even at speed is VERY light. Parking it is a joy but I find the steering really nervous. I did find the tyre pressures to be a little high, TPMS currently says they are 37 front 30 rear which is about bang on for what the sticker on the car says, although I was surprised the front's are so high. My last Focus has selectable steering weights, but I'm guessing without some fairly significant mods there isn't anything "simple" that I can do to improve the weight of the steering at speed?

2. I expected the ride to be quite firm, all the reviews said it was and I also didn't expect it to have plush suspensions but to me it feels like they've simply slapped on a set of stiffer springs which is great, but I find the body roll quite excessive, at least compared to what I'm used to. Anyone know of a simple/cheap/effective solution for that? I don't know if it's simply a case of anti roll bar changing or what.

3. I like the throttle response of it in Sport mode but the regen braking is quite severe. Not sure whether to try and get used to it or just leave it in Normal mode.

4. The lights, I'm not sure if the dipped beams are LED or not, one of the listings I saw said they were but I'm not sure. I live semi in the country and even with the auto high beam working I found the lights to be really poor (in my opinion). My Scirocco and Focus had very basic halogen bulbs and the visibility was pretty good, I expected the Fiesta to be at least on par. I know CEUK do upgrade kits but does anyone know if it's like to make much difference in my case?

Thanks in advance and the above genuinely isn't the be all and end all, just a few bits I'd change if I could.

I find the steering can be quite nervous in mine as well, perhaps we should try lowering the pressures a tiny bit? Mines a non-hybrid, but I have a family member considering a 155 at some point so good to see they’re getting good reviews.

Come on, what is it?😀

On body roll, I had that impression at first, but don't notice it now. I don't find the "sports seats" in the Fiesta to be that sporty, particularly sideways support, and wondered if it was me rolling in the seat rather than the car. I seem to sink further into the seat now they've had a bit of wear. My previous car (Leon FR) had much more pronounced bolsters and I'm guessing your Scirocco might have been similar.

They are led but led in a projector housing, it's not posh matrix led.

Ahhhh thanks, so guessing the CEUK bulbs wouldn’t make much difference then?
