Ford Focus 2008 Fuse 107

Featured Replies

Anyone with the knowledge about the circuit protected by fuse 107 - Instrument cluster battery supply, on-board diagnosis?

I had to remove this fuse in order to stop a battery drain. LCD screen in middle of cluster turns off with ignition off, before it used to stay on for a while. Then randomly came back, draining my battery. I understand there must have been something else powered on, as the LCD screen would not drain on its own.

Would like to know whether is safe to drive with fuse 107 - Instrument cluster battery supply, on-board diagnosis removed.

Thank you.

Usually a parasitic drain relating to the instrument cluster screen staying on all the time is caused by the Bluetooth module/head unit fault. If you've recently installed an aftermarket head unit, you need to unplug the Bluetooth module (remove the glovebox, its right at the front at the top). I suggest you unplug it for a while anyway to see if that stops the drain.

Thanks for that, will investigate. However this is a 2008 Focus, with no Bluetooth connectivity on the radio, only aux.

You didn't say what trim level it is so I figured you had it. There are a lot of focus mk2.5's that include Bluetooth from the factory.

Fuse F107 on a Mk2-facelift Focus provides the 'always on' power supply to the instrument cluster (pin 32). Power is additionally supplied on pin 15 via fuse F108 when the ignition is in 'accessory' or 'run' position, and on pin 4 via fuse F114 when the ignition is in 'run' or 'start' position. When the ignition is off the instrument cluster always draws some current (through pin 32), but by about an hour at most after shutting off and locking the vehicle it's meant to go to sleep and draw a very minimal amount. The LCD remaining on after that time period, or going off and then coming back on suggests that it's not sleeping as it should.

The instrument cluster may still be able to function without the supply on pin 32 (should you pull fuse F107), though only when the ignition is on, just presuming the wires and traces can handle the extra current draw. It's obviously not a proper long term solution though.

Note that this model of instrument cluster is affected by the common problem of cracked solder joints on its wiring connector. Perhaps the damaged connections are somehow responsible for keeping the instrument cluster awake. It's also possible that some other module in the vehicle is faulty and sending out CAN bus messages that are keeping other things like the instrument cluster awake. I provide a repair service for the instrument cluster cracked joint problem, see here: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/314393033915
