Fiesta Maintenance - What's next?

Featured Replies

Hi folks, had my 2012 MK7 Fez now 6 months, and I'm nearing 60k, I had a major service done back when I bought the car (At main dealer, Yes - won't be doing that again 🙂 Anyway, I had a quick look on ETIS at some other bits and bobs that are due to be changed soon or in near future, I have already had the rear spring isolators done, and a few small bits like 4x new toyos and new wiper blades etc. On etis I read that the coolant is good for 10 years/100k Mi, is that true? seems a little long.. I am aware that the brake fluid is due though, as this should be done every 2 years? and ford did mention it back in July. Am I missing anything that should be done imminently maintenance wise? Thanks Ford folk.

I would do the break fluid as well and check the break hoses for deterioration. I would also replace the coolant. Had mine replaced a couple of months ago! It was a pale orange and now it's the proper pink colour. My car is a 2013 1.0 80 ps @ 86000 mi and never had the coolant changed (the interval is 10 years just like yours). So I would do the coolant as well.

I would also replace the accessory belt and ac compressor belt and check if the aircon needs regassing. Check the timing belt interval too (depending on your engine and what ford recommends and the type of service history the car has). I am not sure whether on the mk7's you can change the gearbox oil but I would try that as well. My dealer said they can't do it as they would have to remove the gearbox on mine :(.

I would also have a mechanic check all the suspension components for play. My 2013 1.0 80ps has already had the entire suspension redone front to back and it consumes drop links and track rod ends for some reason. They fail the mot every year... For reference I do about 20k mi a year and given the state of the roads in Scotland I am not really surprised.

Best of luck!

Thanks dude, booked in for some bits and bobs next week, and a vehicle health check, then mot following week! Belts are due this year, so that will be some £ 🙂 that is some mileage! I have done 4k miles in my fez since I got it :))

That's pretty average mileage, 10,000 - 12,000 has always been reckoned to be an average mileage.

His car is 8 years old and with 86,000 miles it's averaging just over 10,000 a year.

I do about 18,000 to 20,000 a year so i'd be on about 160,000 miles with an 8 year old motor.

I had an MR2 MK2 back in the 1990's, bought it with 20,000 on the clock, sold it 10 years later with 240,000. Engine was still running fine, never had anything done to it apart from the required cam belt and water pump every 60,000, I think .  Had 2 new rear Brake calipers (apparently a common fault for them to go at higher mileage), 2 sets of brake pads and discs, 2 batteries and about 6 sets of tyres, new dampers and springs every 60,000 miles or so. Was a very reliable car 🙂

Thats great! 59k miles on an 8 year old car isn't bad going I suppose 🙂 Yeah due to the pandemic I've not driven much since getting the car, I don't travel far anyway regardless of the pandemic, usually just drive for fun 🙂I have heard from many folks that the 1.25 is bulletproof, however there are things that are often overlooked in services ie, coolant age, brake fluid, belts etc. Jobs for feb are coolant flush and fresh brake fluid, and then belts in spring, I absolutely love the car, puts a smile on my face, and touch wood is reliable! that's what its all about ay!

I wonder if my fez can get to 240k😂

Well at your current rate of mileage the rest of the car will probably fall apart with rust before then 🙂

Three of my cars prior to getting my first fiesta in 2016 all managed well over 200,000 miles but I was doing about 30,000 a year back then, so most of them were well under 10 years old by the time I got rid of them.

Got it May 2016 at 18k and only started tracking my mileage halfway through 2018. In 2019 I did 17k and in 2020 I did 18.5k. I think the first 3 years of its life it was only used as a shopping cart lol. 220k miles in an MR2 sounds amazing! They sure don't make em like they used to.
