2011 Fiesta Speedometer intermittent fault

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

My 2011 Ford Fiesta 1.4LTDi has recently developed an intermittent fault with the following symptoms:

  • Speedometer falls to 0
  • ABS + Power Steering + Engine warning lights on the dash
  • Simultaneous slight dip in power

The problem first appeared during one of the recent very wet days, with the speedometer dropping to zero on the motorway.

After running Forescan, I get a error code relating to the Left Front Wheel Speed Sensor (C0031).

If I stream data from each of the ABS wheel speed sensors, I can see that LFWSS (top) shows a fluctuating signal, even when stationary.

Interestingly, in this case restarting the ignition seemed to correct the sensor.

Since the fault seems to comes an go at random, do you think what I am seeing is due to a bad connection somewhere along the way to the ABS control module OR that the LFWSS is on the way out.

Any help on this would be great,

Thanks a lot in advance!
