Car broke down

Featured Replies

Hello, new question

I have a new Ford Fiesta 19 plate, it went into limp mode yesterday got aa to tow back home, they couldn’t diagnose it so left it up to me to sort! Now I filled up with petrol like I do all the time, but it happened as soon As the spanner light came on the dash! I have warranty but apparantly if it was filter needed a change it wouldn’t be covered under that warranty, so is it best to wait three weeks for a service at Ford (earliest time to book in) or to go local recommended garage.  If it isn’t covered under the warranty whatever the problem is , will it  be more expensive than going to local garage?

Thanks

personally if car is under warranty even if parts aren't i would use main dealer for services.

more chance of getting things fitted by ford replaced by ford without any quibble if there is a problem. Plenty of patented parts out there which are not fit for purpose. You have to ask yourself why has it failed on a near new car unless you have done 60k miles already. let dealer diagnose problem or you will be throwing money at it.

Did it happen immediately after filling with petrol?  Could be worth asking at the petrol station in case it was a bad batch of fuel...others may have complained since.

Ford dealership will cost more, labour charge is higher, but unless you know if a good Ford specialist, they're the only ones that will have the right diagnostic machine if AA didn't pick anything up.

Cheers Tom.
About 30-45 mins after it did the wrench light and then soon as light came on car just stopped the speed. Local garage gonna give it a look over and see what the crack is, give me a price of what I am looking at round about for the Ford garage .

cheers

fuel filter on the mk8 cannot be replaced separately, it is built into tank fuel pump assembly, it should reach the end of its service life together with the pump.

I suspect something wrong with the evaporative emissions system, may be the fuel canister or its purge valve, oh and by the way, did you check if the fuel fill neck is clean of debris and the flap is working properly ? please keep us updated, good luck 🙂

Hey, thanks for replying

No never thought that would affect it to be fair 😅  I will check tomorrow when we have sunlight. It’s just a Ford Fiesta like not even two year old, I don’t dare to  get in it with the kids.

I don't live in the UK, but a recent body repair was actually cheaper at the official Ford Dealer than at a specialist shop (about 40%). Also your repair is more likely to have less of an impact on your overall car warranty if done officially. If the rules are the same in the UK the repair itself will also be covered by a two year warranty. In general I would stick to the official repair shops during any car warranty, this should avoid any problems. Later on it is up to you.
