Rear screen demister causing temperature display fault

Featured Replies

Over the last few days I have found that whenever I turn my rear screen demister on then the outside temperature display drops to around -7 or -8 degrees celsius !!

As soon as I turn it off it then quickly rises to the correct ambient temperature.

Has anyone else encountered this on the Mk3.5 or can suggest how to rectify this, please ??

Tried it again this morning and it went down to -15 before it stopped. After leaving the car for about half in hour whilst in the supermarket, it was still showing -15 and took about 3 or 4 minutes (with the demister switched off) before it slowly climbed back up to 2 degrees.

Anyone got any ideas ??

I know the rear screen demister also operates the heated mirrors and I think the temperature guage is also in the mirror housing.

It could be a faulty temperature guage or connection issue on the wiring causing your problem.

Thanks Cheers CoIW...I've just googled it and found this...

HOW TO REPLACE THE OUTSIDE AMBIENT TEMP SENSOR- (FORD FOCUS MIRROR ASSEMBLY) 2014-2017 - YouTube

I've had a look at it and checked the connector shown on the above video at 1 min 55 secs, and it looked quite greasy so I sprayed the terminals with electrical contact spray then put it back together and tried it and lo and behold, it looks as though it's fixed (hopefully) as it is now back to normal again (fingers crossed) 😃😃

Thanks for your help mate
