Fiesta MK7.5 140PS can't downshift to 2nd gear

I have this problem! Did you get to the cause of it. Many thanks

@Christianjones Changing the synchros did fix the issue but it turned out to be a short term fix only. The issue with this gearbox is that it’s mated to an engine that is turbocharged and creates a great deal of torque for a 1 litre engine. The gearbox can’t really cope. That being said, my wife bought a new 66 plate Zetec S Red Edition (which became the ST Line) but she didn’t drive it like many ‘younger’ people did. After 4 years she passed it on to our daughter who was taught to drive by me (ex Police Advanced Class 1) and only in March this year did she trade it in for a new Audi. At that time there were no issues at all with the gearbox, so I put that down to the driving style mainly. If you remap these engines, then you are pushing the already fine tolerances past where they are built to withstand and synchro problems will occur. Although Synchro repairs can be done, the only real cure would be a new gearbox I’m afraid. Probably not the news you are after. Double de-clutching is a fix but it takes a bit of skill. As someone else posted, you can drive a car without a clutch by careful rev matching. I’ve driven 50 miles in a Mini by rev-matching with no clutch, but I wouldn’t recommend doing it for anything other than necessity.

I have a mk7 zetec s black edition I'm currently having problems with my gears. Reverse keeps whining and not going into gear can take 10 attempts to get the car moving. I've also noticed struggles to go in 2nd and 4th. Would gear selector cable fix this problem? Thanks in advance

I imagine that like many of us, myself included he's getting tired of writing lengthy replies to first time posters who never return to read the answer 🤔
