Galaxy cranking over on first click of ignition

Hi all, need some help please. got a weird problem that I will try my best to explain. Got a 2010 1.8 tdci galaxy that will not start. When I put the key in the ignition and put it on the first click it will crank the engine over. If I turn the key to the second position its still keeps cranking and the same on the 3rd cranking/starting position of the ignition. Has anyone experienced anything like this before or give me some advice on where to start looking for the fault. Any help would be very much apriciated. Thanks all
