Hi, 

The release handle to open the bonnet in the footwell was pulled to hard and now when I close the bonnet I have to try and push the cable back towards the bonnet for the bonnet to be able to close again. Can anyone help with how to fix this?

No doubt the hinge mech under the bonnet is seizing up, mine seized up, unseized it by WD40, then blasting it to death with spray grease, been ok since.

Bill, you have to remember that Ford have only been building cars for about 120 years now. They are still trying to develop a mechanism that reliably works LOL The bonnet mechanism on all models fail as you can tell by this forum being littered with posts of failed bonnet catches (me included). Hopefully some additional lube as suggested will help you out.

Just wait till you get to the crazzy Focus Mk4 bonnet release system 🤪. I expect in about 4 years from now there will be lots of Mk4 owners trying to find a way to open the bonnet after the system fails.

At least you don't have to drop the hood from 12in to get it to shut like the MK3 and the emergency release procedure is in the handbook.

Its just a shame they didn't include a socket set and extension in the hand book 🤣

This is the way I have closed every single bonnet on every car I've owned since my 1970s Datsun 120Y LOL

I loved that car!! I fitted 4 x Cibie Oscars to it (vibrated like heck as fitted to bumper, not on proper mounting brackets!), 15" alloys (big in those days), a whale tail spoiler, a massive 5ft CB aerial, and various other bits. Yep, I sure slowed that car down by about 40% LOL It started off white, but I got a very cheap respray from mate and ended up silver! Oh, it also had a Janspeed manifold fitted too, hey, I was young and dreadfully ill informed - no internet!

My late mam 'had' a 1937 white Jaguar SS convertible ......think that's worth braggin 😍 

Long gone now and most likely hidden in some collectors garage waiting for the price to go up & up 🤔

Mine - hard to value as they all rusted away in the 80s LOL
