2003 Fiesta wiper stalk replacement

Featured Replies

Hi there, I've just bought an 03 Fiesta (which would be a Mark V?), and I need to sort a couple of issues.

First one is the washer button on the wiper stalk isn't working. (Think the pump is ok cos it works fine for the rear window.) So I think I need to replace the wiper stalk. How do I remove the steering column cover? Have found a couple of guides online but one says there are screws, the other says the cover can just be prised off (neither is for an '03 model though).

Another problem I'm having is the headlight levelling motors (on both headlights) are whirring constantly when the headlights are switched on. So I may need to disconnect the motors and just level the headlights manually. I guess I should create a new post for that though?

(This is my first post on here btw. Hello! And thanks for all help.)

To remove upper shroud, turn steering wheel 90deg from straight ahead, and you should be able to prise the upper shroud off the lower shroud, then turn the steering wheel from straight ahead 90deg the other way, andrepeat the prising action.   You will need to remove instrument hood as upper shroud is connected by a rubber bit, I think it just unclips.  Lower shroud is held in place with three screws and I think the column height adjuster.   That should give you access to the column switches.

Thanks Paul. I'll update when I've done it.

That's it done. Easy job and has fixed the problem. As you said Paul, turn the steering wheel 90. You then see a wee rectangular hole - push in there with a flathead screwdriver releases the clip. Same on the other side, and then you can just lift the upper shroud up. I didn't even need to remove the instrument hood or the lower shroud - was able to slide the stalk up (pressing in a wee clip thing releases it) and disconnect it. Cheers for the help.

(There is quite a good youtube vid on how to do it. Is it ok to post youtube links on here? Or would it be considered spam?)

Glad to hear that it is fixed !  I did used to be pretty good at taking a Capri Dash to pieces, but no good at getting it back together again !

I don't know about Youtube links (I'm too old !), that would be a question for a moderator.

YouTube video links are fine.  They should automatically embed into posts too.

Here's the one that I found useful. For a Mk 7 rather than a 6, but same basic process -
