Peeling paint

Featured Replies

Just noticed this where the pillock of a previous owner removed a wrap by himself in about 20 minutes with a Stanley knife... What do I do does it need to be resprayed?

The rust spot? Yes that will need sanding back and all the rust removing before being re-sprayed. Better to treat it now before it gets worse as it starts bubbling the rest of the paint and will require a new arch welding in before you know it.

Yeah a would grind it all back to metal a least a foot in diameter sand then a would use some body filler let dry then sand . And repeat until proper smooth. Then prime use a 3000 grade sandpaper smooth that out prime again 3 coats of paint then a good few coats off clear coat . Then sand the clear coat and polish you will need a dry warm room to leave each coat cure for 24 hours . Mite be better off taking down to a shop getting them to do body work can really suck if you don’t have the proper room or tools 🛠

And if you do it yourself mind after it’s all done you will want to polish it in to your exciting coat so you can’t see that there was damage

Nice st-3 tho looks good

I woudn't respray or sand back a foot! - take the rusted bit back to clean metal and use a touch up bottle (primer / body colour) with a fine brush (from an art shop or e-bay)  not the one that comes with it, your cars 7 years old i'm sure it has a few other scratches and dings - i'd be more comcerned abourt the bumper hanging off.

That rust spot needs more than a bit of touch up paint with a fine brush. Those are designed for deep scratches/scrapes only.

For a spot that big you need to sand it back to bare metal. You will end up with an area at least twice the size of the one you can currently see as you need to sand far enough to see clean metal. Preferably then coat with some rust convertor for any specs you may miss by sanding alone. You also need proper 2k lacquer out of a spray gun or it'll just chip off again in no time.

Just take it to a bodyshop and let them deal with it. This isn't the sort of repair for the average DIYer, you need proper spraying equipment and a booth to get a good result.

Thanks for all your advice guys, because of the wrap it's had on it it's an immaculate car other than this. So I've asked my mate who has about 10 cars and vans to recommend me a bodyshop and I'm just waiting for him to get back to me now. What should I pay for a repair like this?

The sideskirt doesn't usually hang off by the way I was pulling it out with my finger but the plastic popper has definitely gone.

Am I right in thinking about 300 for a repair like this? More like 600??

Maybe more depending on the rust damage mite not be to bad if you have a mate then mates rates lol where a would be
