Disconnecting Seat

Featured Replies

Afternoon All,

I wanted to ask for your thoughts. When driving and taking a tight corner the seat belt base is pushed out by my body moving, and it seems to trigger the sensor that shows the seat belt isn't plugged in, which inst the case. I wanted to know if I was to just unplug the electrics from the seat would this disable the airbags? I am assuming that there is loose wiring which is causing the issue, but nothing that can be clearly seen.

I am just looking for a simple fix that ideally means that I don't have to pay or take the car to the garage.

Thanks in advance!

Disconnecting it won't make the seatbelt light go out, in fact it'll ensure that it stays on permanently. The circuit needs to be closed in order for the light to go out so you'd need to short out 2 of the pins on the connector.

This is quite serrious. First do not disconnect - by pass or otherwise mess with the seat belt warning / sensor. Not only is it connected to the airbag system so that it knows that there is someone sat in the seat, it is also is linked in with the seat belt pretension system.

I've not come accross a fault on the seat belt buckle before where it it is possible for the belt to be snapped in and moving it causes it to say its not fastened. Can you recreate this fault when the car is standing still ? I'm trying to work out if the fault is in the buckle or lower down on the seat, either way its something that needs fixed. Let me know if you can get the warning when the car is stopped.
