Eco boost not reaching optimum running temperature

Just checking that you have a standard 1.0 Ecoboost engine ??

If so then unless you bought it from a charity shop, there is no way the garage could have changed the wet belt for only £330 without making a huge loss.

Or as he said, most of the cost was covered by warranty.

Yes as he said, they changed the thermostat and the water pump under warranty. Neither of those jobs requires a major strip of the engine. The replacement of the wet belt (between 8 and 12 hours labour) would not have been covered by warranty and would cost way more than the £330

I'm sure OP will be back and can explain what happened.

Yes, it is the standard one.

The thermostat/water pump and related belts etc were changed under warranty - they had to take the engine out for this, and only charged me for the parts for the timing belt change, not the majority of the labour. I've heard that it's the labour that's the killer for the change on these as, like you say, it's a wet belt.

They said the last guy they had in with an ecoboost was £1,450 plus the VAT for a wet belt change.

What were you guys' thoughts on the temperature issue? 🙂

GasRob, Did they change both thermostats? You only mention 'the Thermostat' The ecoboost has two. See my post earlier this thread.

Thanks 🙂 I see - no they only changed the main thermostat as far as I'm aware.  Don't think the block thermostat was changed.

Would a broke secondary one still cause the same running temperature issue?

Yes 👍

Sounds like a common problem.  My 65plate 52k miles has started only getting upto 3 bars then taking longer to get upto 4 then keeps droping between 3 and 4.  Running at 72degrees on the menu will get upto 78 when i boot it but drops down again.  Sounds like main stat to me as its getting upto 3 ok then dropping down from 4.  Should i get this replaced do you think or is ok at 72?  Kind of borderline but it should run at 90 92 right???  Suppose its only going to get worse might as well get it changed when i take it in to get the rear passenger side brake drum checked as its squeeling a bit after being left overnight but then goes away???   Annoying niggles i had no problems with my previous car Mazda MX5 which i owned for 12 years!!!  Just regular servicing, still had its original battery and exauhst at 15 years old!!!

Hi.

Sorry for necroposting, but I'm in the same exact situation you described here, same temps even.

Did you get it fixed?

Best regards,

Luis.

Yeah new thermostat did the trick comes upto temp now.  Wasn't cheap as it's interergrated into the water pump I think so whole new unit rather than a 10 pound thermostat!

Nice, glad you had it fixed!

But, integrated into the water pump? Do you mean the thermostat body? Was it the one with the hose to the radiator)?

Thanks for your time.

Best regards,

Yeah probably the thermostat body don't know what it looks like but it was the one at the top of the engine.  There is a second thermostat lower down I think.

Yes, the one down and to the right is the cylinders block stat.

If nothing weird happens, I'm having the main one replaced next Tuesday under warranty. 😁

Well I hate to tell you this but the one I diagnosed did over 150 miles without reaching optimum running temperature and never logged a DTC 😂

Replaced under warranty and issue solved! 🥳

Cheers! ✌️
