Tappets Noise Apparent At Startup Until Engine Is Warm

Featured Replies

Hello all im new to the forums so play nice!

Im getting a tapping noise when starting the engine then continues for around 7-8 mins until the engine is warmer.

Now am I doing it damage driving this like it is?

I have bought some wynns oil additive which I shall keep in for around a thousand miles then change the oil again, now have other fiesta owners had this issue?

Im preying that this stuff will clears it up nicely lol

Look forward to sifting through these forums more so now I have found them!

what fiesta is it e.g year, model, engine size???

You will find most four banger small CC cars will have tappet noise when cold it just comes with the territory

something we have to live with,so i would'nt worry about it just get used to it ;)

Chances are, you have done enough miles to need the "bucket & shims" type tappets adjusted. Your oil needs to be 5w30, and you should not boost its viscosity with Wynns or STP etc., as is slows the delivery of oil around the engine. All you should do to oil, is do an oil/filter change, but you can use better 5W30, like Castrol Edge, which is also fully synthetic, as is 5w30 Magnatec.

Some people wrongly boost the oil-thickness in noisy engines, but that can spell disaster in modern fine-tolerance engines. 15w30 Magnatec is not fully synthetic, so it breaks down in viscosity quicker than the correct 5w30 magnatec.

Your engine cannot be given a bottom-end and rebore type of overhaul, so second-hand engines are a frequent cheap fix, or a "short-engine" and overhaul the head.
