help break pads and disks

Hello I need some guidance my 2013 ford fiesta 1.2 needed some new break pads as mot centre said they only just passed. I had this on my mind and decided to bit the bullet. Went to allcaretyre huddersfield . They originally quoted me £75 for some break pads. I don't know if this was normal. Its not my normal garage but since it was near work thought it was more convenient. But when I came back said they had to replace the disks as well the pads were showing metal underneath so clearly was not good and was biting partly on the disk. He was saying some thing about can not put pads on rusty disks. The bill ended up being £145 this pretty much wiped me out for this week.  Does any one think I was over charged looking on eBay a set of pads and disks look to be around £40. Any advise ? as I was stuck and needed my car to get to work. The main guy I sore on Wednesday said he would put some high quality pads on. But do pads really cost this much. I understand labour but it only took an hour. Any mechanics here who can advise?

Hi Paul, I would think thats about right. Say £70 labour and £75 parts. If he put just decent pads and discs on the parts would be more than the eBay putty discs and rubber pads.

It depends what brand of discs and pads they use. Sure you could get some cheap eBay crap for £40, but the discs will just warp and the pads will end up containing asbestos.

You'll pay £100 for genuine Ford discs & pads. Brembo is usually around the £70-80 mark.

Not quote sure what you mean by this, the disc is a big lump on metal lol. The discs do wear slightly though and a lot of garages don't even bother checking them, they just replace them everytime.

Getting back to your question, the price sounds reasonable enough. £70 for the parts and £35 a wheel in labour.

Sounds about right to me too.

Last weekend I changed the discs and pads on my friends 2014 fiesta 1.0 EcoBoost. Managed to get parts from a Ford dealer on eBay for £85, and at the time Brembo was dearer as was the Euro Car Parts (for decent parts).
