Algae on rubber window housing

Featured Replies

Whilst sat at Meadowhell on chauffeuring duties I was cleaning the inside of the car and noticed the light green algae on the rubber strip. It seems powdery and I did try to wipe it off with some glass cleaner but its refused to budge. It's more apparent towards the wing mirror has anyone else noticed similar ?

Ahh so not just mine then. Looking at the passenger side rubber housing and it's all the way along the rubber strip. More noticable when the window is fully down.

Same on my Golf too.  More prominent on the North facing side.

It's common an most cars .

Never noticed it on any other car I've owned.

Perhaps I'm spending too much time cleaning the car 🤔

I blame the Greens, When we were burning lots of coal there was that much sulphur in the air it killed that sort of stuff off.

Maybe.. far.. far in the future the algae will 'power' the vehicle....

It's definitely worse this year due to the damp Winter, I always keep a stiff bristled toothbrush in my cleaning kit and brush it with window cleaner or if it's very dry I just brush it and follow with a vacuum cleaner at the same time.

Had it all over mine when I bought my fez a few months ago, I used bare bones and a hard bristle brush, I clean the car weekly and has not come back yet

It comes off easily if you use any brand waterless wash & wax! My car lives under trees so it's a regular bit of maintenance for me.
