Removing Fiesta steering column to grease shaft

Featured Replies

Fiesta 1.25 2004.

I am trying to remove the lower end of the steering column shaft so I can grease the shaft as I am getting a slight knock at very low speed.

I have removed the lower 10 mm bolt and I thought I should then be able to swivel the universal joint hook out of the way, but it seems very resistant to moving. I have tried prising with a screwdriver and also tap gently with a hammer but it doesn't move.

Am I missing something obvious?

Thanks.

Have you tried blasting the hell out of it with spray grease ? Turning the steering as you blast at it.

Best to get some old clothes you'll never wear to cover up the carpet, wipe off excess grease when stopped dribbling & set.

Thanks for the suggestion.  So keep everything in situ, rather than undo it, and spray grease down the shaft?

TBH, I am not actually convinced the slight knock is coming from there anyway but thought I would try the simplest, cheapest option first, as it seems many owners have reported this issue and it often it has been fixed by greasing this shaft.
