Ford Focus 2020 Automatic Rotary Dial and Electric Handbrake- Am I doing something wrong?

Featured Replies

Is the clunk because it’s a dial?

Auto gearboxes are nowdays more efficient and smoother than the old ones.

But here in Greece, manual gearboxes are the winners of the market because of their simplicity and their lower price.

My MK4 FOCUS ECOBLUE was more expensive with an auto gearbox than a manual.

We are talking about 3.000-4.000 euros more expensive than the manual.

Are the cars with auto gearbox such so expensive in England?

I also wanted to buy an auto gearbox but it was so far out of my budget!!!

The auto gear box with the correct way of driving and the right maintenance is going to keep your smile always on your face!!!

Of course i was joking on to my previous reply.

Have health all of you and good night!!!

Greetings from hot Athens/Greece!

In the UK, across most makes that offer a choice, auto gearboxes are typically £1400 - £1500 (around 1600-1700 Euros) more than the manual, so less expensive here than Greece. Though not as hot and sunny!

Greece is the most expensive country in Europe in everything...Cars, fuel, mobile telephony, internet, clothing, house rents etc...only water (bottled) is still at logic prices yet...even taxes are so high....

But we have plenty of sun and beautiful places to visit!!!😄😄😄

You need to reset transmission adaptive learning settings, either by Forscan or by disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes.

See my other post on this in the Focus Forum

Yes that's right, when I move the dial to 'D' there's an uncomfortable clunk, moves the whole car.  I don't have forscan, so you think I can just disconnect the battery for a bit then it'll sort itself out? Or should I let a professional do this?

Thank God i have a manual gearbox on my Focus MK4!!!

Even if it burns some oil from new (irrelevant, very sad about it, thing i was not expecting)

6 gears to play with, any time with safety!!!

Long live the manual gearboxes!!!

:punk:

Thank God for automatic gearboxes. I, like you thought the same 'till I bought a Hyundai Ioniq. Both the boss and myself loved the auto so much that we bought an Active X auto to replace the Titanium X Mk3.

I would also like to buy an auto just from curiosity!!!

But here in Greece EVERYTHING is expensive and tax-full even the air we breathe!!!

Ford Focus with auto gear was 3.000-4.000 more expensive than the manual.

Loans base rates are so high (6%-10% with no advanced fee).

So you are forced to buy the cheapest edition of your favorite car.

But we have the most beautiful country in the whole world!!!!

Have a nice healthy day!!!

Good to see you upkeep tradition too last night in Eurovision giving maximum 12 points to Cyprus, and them giving you in return their maximum 12 points. You don't even need to hear the songs, the reciprocal voting has been going on for decades LOL 🤣

That’s what happens when you mess with the EU...not a good state of affairs.

here...this’ll cheer you up.....

Just an update on this one... the car is with Ford at the moment who are looking into:

1) The big 'clunk' when moving the dial to 'D'.  To elaborate on my original post, if I turn the dial to 'D' (from P, R or N), there's a huge clunk. The whole car moves quite violently and it's fairly loud.  You have to be on the brake very hard to stop the car lurching forwards.

2) The lurching/jerking when slowing down.  For example, if approaching a junction, and you take your foot off the accelerator, as the car slows you get a sudden lurch, almost like it's dropped a gear too early or something.

I've asked them to look at these things so I'll update when I pick it up later.  I've been driving a Mazda for the past 10 years, so maybe these things are 'normal' for a Ford, but I hope not! 🙂.  I had 'advised' them that a 'friend' (aka this group) suggested it may be to do with the Adaptive Learning bits and pieces but I'll see what they come back with.

'Guard Mode' on the Ford App tells me they've opened the bonnet and doors so guess it's being worked on right now.......

Update to follow

No that doesn't sound right.  There's a bit of clunk going from D to R but that's all, and shifts both up and down should be gentle.

It’s fixed! Everything is now super-smooth. It sounds like they’ve done just what DaveT70 suggested. I can’t decipher all of this, but can make out the all important “cleared the transmission adaptive tables” 😁

The clunk has gone and gear changes are super-smooth.

Hi, just wondering if your gearbox is still ok after the fix?

Mine has been with Ford for two weeks and they say gearbox is operating within normal parameters and nothing wrong, however hesitation/slight jolt in 3rd and 4th gear, rest of gears are smooth, when slowing down car is jerky.  They said the gearbox learning was reset, but still no change.  Any ideas would be appreciated

Oh dear, when Scottie use to say that in Star Trek, the next scene would show the chaos that would ensue!

Yes it’s been fine ever since they fixed it, no issues at all

I have the same car, a 70 plate and mine made the same clunk when moving from R to D and also the same jolt when coming down through the gears. I took it back to Ford and they downloaded an update which has rectified the problem and was all done under warranty. I would get it booked into ford's and get it sorted.
