Oil sump leak Fiesta Mk6 1.6 tdci

Featured Replies

I have heard a lot of people replacing the oil sump seal which Ford lists as a mastic sealent type for this car only to find its leaking again after a few months.

Does anyone know if an after market cork type material gasket or rubber edging is available which fits this car to use as a sump seal instead to avoid oil leakage from the oil sump.

The car is a mk6.5 Fiesta zetec 1.6 tdci.

It doesn't look like Ford even sell the sealant anymore, and I don't think there is a machine made gasket available.
Nothing to say you can't buy a piece of cork/rubber material and make your own though!

I think the ST sump has the rubber type sump gasket but i doubt the sump design is exactly the same as mine to fit. I dont know part numbers to compare so will ring Ford on Monday.

Only going to use the wet sealant gasket as a last resort if i can, as i know it will leak if i do it.

I will look into making my own but cant help thinking the sump bolts may not lock to the correct torque if this is done.

I wonder if any manufacturers would be willing to make a machined one. If they do, i would buy bulk and sell them.

Ford want over £200 to replace wet sealant gasket with engine oil and filter change.

I'm not sure what you're getting at here, you'd have the same issue regardless of whether you buy pre-cut or DIY.

I'm pretty sure the ST sump is completely different.

Sealant applied correctly and it won't leak again. Done loads and none leaked

I think i will end my search for a dry gasket for eveness as no one seems to make one for my car. Can you recommend a sump sealant and is it easy to take the sump off. I will be putting the car on ramps to work on it.
