Hi all,

I’m new here, bought a 56 plate Ford Fiesta Ghia 1.6 TDCi a couple of weeks ago, had it serviced and a few repairs done.

I went for a 120 mile round trip Friday evening with it and since then the EML has come on and plugging the OBD2 in comes up with P042F code.  Searching online, it looks to be the EGR Valve, the thing is, apart from a slight loss in power, I have no other symptoms of a blocked valve, not sure if anyone can shed some light on the situation?

    If the ECU has detected it being stuck open/closed that's enough for it to throw a code.

    I'd definitely start with cleaning/ inspecting the EGR valve.

    Hi. I had same problem with my 2011 focus I was losing power and engine management light kept coming on the disappearing when car was turn off and on. I had my mate take to Ford and came back with egr valve stuck open.  So I took it off and cleaned it up and as of yet no problems. It’s a relatively easy thing to get to and do.
