2008 Ford Fiesta Radio Controls Not Responding

Been struggling to find an existing forum topic for this problem but hoping someone can help.

I have a 2008 Mk7 Fiesta and the radio is intermittently unresponsive - the volume and skip controls don’t work on the Centre console or steering wheel but the speakers still function as usual.

The thing is - the problem is intermittent. Sometimes when the ignition is started the radio starts to function again but will become unresponsive again the next time the car is started. 
 

Ive checked the corresponding fuse and it seems fine, otherwise I can’t seem to find a fix online. Anyone had a similar issue?
