Mk8 Bonnet Struts

Featured Replies

I've just fitted a set of NB Styling bonnet struts to my Mk8...easy to fit and brilliant in operation, I'm really chuffed with them! (These are more usually seen on STs, but fit all Mk8s)

Yes, a worthy addition to any bonnet, I fitted them to my last Celica. Shame the additional expense stops them being standard fitment on all cars...

I wish they were still fitted as standard...I'd forgotten how heavy bonnets were over the last couple of years as my Golf has gas struts.  Lifted the bonnet on a new (Mk8) Golf a couple of weeks ago to discover they've done away with gas struts and I could barely lift it!

Ironically, the Celica GT4 bonnet is made of aluminum (lesser models are steel), so are actually pretty light, but struts are just far more convenient, and have much poser appeal!

LOL! It's not even poser appeal for me (a 49 year old with a bog standard Mk8) it's just the incredible satisfaction of how they work!

My Merc C class had struts too, and an additional function I never even realised till I saw a mechanic do it, in that there is an additional release lever in it so that when opened, it allows the bonnet to be raised even further, almost vertically for supreme engine access - those Germans eh? They know a thing or two LOL

Such a fuss over bonnet struts! They should be on all vehicles. Our old 2003 Xsara had gas struts! What joy to open the bonnet 👌
