Start up electrical issues on ford focus mk2

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I am at the point of reaching the end of my tether with my cars electrical issues. For the past year or so now I have been having an issue where the car won't start and will just make a clicking noise, that obviously suggests the starter motor, but sometimes the car will be so flat that the central locking will not work either. The issues are normally resolved with me using a power pack and jump starting the car. Its not like I leave the car, without running it for long periods of time either, the last time it had this issues, I only had to wait 5 days for it to have the same issue and need a jump start. I've had the car fully serviced within the time period of this issue and noted it to the mechanic to look out for any problems that may cause this issue. I had a new starter motor added, the battery was tested and was fine and the alternator was tested and was working well too. I don't believe leaving my car for 5 days without running it would warrant a jump start? Unless I'm being too optimistic haha. But I don't want to have to keep having my fingers crossed every time I start my car and having to get a jump start nearly every time too. I think all the obvious points of failure have been looked at, but if anyone else has any suggestions or tips on what the issue might be I'd greatly appreciate them. Thank you.

Your problem sounds like an issue with parasitic drain.  Modern(ish) cars will only power down fully if ALL the modules report back at the right time and in the right way.  If a module isn't powering down or/responding properly, the car's systems won't fully go to sleep, leading to a flat battery on a regular basis.

@FatHead1979 thanks for the help. After taking it to a auto electric shop, they ran some tests and found out it was a parasitic drain, specifically on the radio. He said to resolve it just to replace the radio. I’ve removed the radio completely and the problem is still continuing

I would report back to the spark what you just told us, see what else he suggests...
