EAC FAIL - With weird Symptoms

Featured Replies

Hello guys, I was hoping you might be help point me in the right direction to do with my 1.4 tdci Ford fusion's EAC fail....

I was driving home recently from a long trip when my car entered limp mode and showed the dreaded EAC Fail message.  I pulled over and checked the car to see if something was wrong, but when I restarted the engine, the message went away... so I continued driving and then appeared 20 mins later. the car repeated this pattern till I managed to get home. I generally had to wait 20 seconds before I could start the engine again.

I've goggled "EAC fail", and understand that its abit of generic code for a wide range of possible problems with the car. But at the same time the message started to appear, I started having some unusual problems that I've not read about on other posts. I'm hoping that these problems might make the issue easier to diagnose.

During the trip home, at one point, the speedometer made a slight electrical crackling noise and went dead. I pull over when I could and restarted it again and the speedometer came back to life, but the miles driven counter went from displaying the miles to just displaying "-------". Im wondering if it could be related to the EAC fail.

I'm a little bit hesitant to send it to a garage, as the car only cost me 600 pound when I brought it, so I don't want to sink more money into it then I paid for it.

You need to check battery voltage and that the alternator is charging correctly (14v ideally), the 3 wire connector on the alternator too, it's easily accessible from the top.

Does the battery warning light appear on dash ? if so and voltage has dropped then there is a blown fuse on fuse panel. If the voltage drops below a certain voltage, the signal sent from the throttle assembly (or the voltage) will be incorrect - i think this is sent to the ecu.

There is also a possibility of bad wiring / connections on ecu which is between n/s headlamp and battery.

If you check my posts below in this fusion group you may see i had exactly same problem. I also had a MAF sensor fail at the same time which threw a red herring into the diagnosis.

Will also help if you have a code reader for the obd port.
