Car revs/nearly stalls on its own on start up

Wondering if someone might have had this issue before. Whenever I start the car it bogs and revs itself between 600 and 1500 rpm. RPM levels out after idling for a few minutes and car still seems to drive fine. Would like to know what it is in case its the start of a bigger problem.
