Disconnecting alarm on 2009 Fusion

I've recently acquired a 2009 Fusion Zetec Climate, which has a few issues that I'd like to fix. The driver's door occasionally reports being open, which I gather means a replacement door lock mechanism. I can't be bothered with the expense of that, so I'd like to disable the alarm to ensure that it doesn't go off. I thought about simply removing the fuse, but I gather this would cause other problems as the fuse is shared with the central locking and GEM module. Does anyone know if the alarm has it's own horn which I could just disconnect? Thanks!



It's integrated into the system and can't be deactivated.

Well you can deactivate the alarm by pulling fuses cutting wires to the horn etc. The only small problem is that it also does what it was designed to do .... it deactivates the car !!!!

The microswitch for the door open indication is buried in the door lock, but have you tried anything else, like checking the connector in the "A" post ?  a long shot, but disconnect, check contacts, and ensure reconnected correctly.

Apart from that, access the door interior, work out which cores go to the microswitch, and bypass by connecting the wires together.

On our Fusion, I did replace the door lock mechanism, not cheap and a right palaver.

Thanks for the responses, I'll take a closer look at the lock mechanism and microswitch and see if there's anything obvious. I like your suggestion Paul of bypassing the microswitch, I may do that as a long term 'fix'. I'm not bothered about using the alarm as I can't imagine anyone would want to try and steal the car, really I'd just like to make sure that the alarm doesn't sound. Does the alarm use the car horn, or does it have a separate siren?

We got an auto electrician to look into the door ajar issue & he just bypassed the micro-switch it fixed the door ajar issue but had to make sure we opened one of the other doors after unlocking the car (or the key wasn’t left in the car) otherwise the car self locked because it couldn’t detect that the drivers door had been opened.

Haha, good point! I'll have to give it some extra thought 🤓

The microswitch inside the door lock can be replaced for a couple of pounds once you get the lock out. I understand your reluctance to take the lock out but you will find shorting out the switch will only fix the door open problem but will cause allsorts of odd problems with the central locking. Also just a minor point if your insurance company knows that you have 'by passed the switch' and the alarm no longer works on that door they could technically void your insurance.

 

My dad’s Fusion didn’t have an alarm, so it didn’t matter anyway.

I'm sure that may well have been the case, but insurance companies are strange beasts and like to calculate your premium based on known facts. If your car was built with a factory alarm system then they take that in to account. If you then disable the alarm you have altered the risk, and since they like to have their pound of flesh then either they will increase the premium if you inform them (which is what you are meant to do), or if you don't inform them and they discover that, say when your car is stolen then they have the right to void your insurance. At the end of the day, its your car and you are perfectly within your rights to do what ever you feel is right for you. 👍

The door open warning has popped up for me a couple of times while driving, but the alarm hasn't gone off when parked so maybe it will be fine. Now I think about it, the warning light only came on when I used the windscreen wipers, which is something I saw someone else mention in another forum thread. Maybe it's an electrical wiring or interference fault.

Hi plissken, I've just joined this forum as I have a 2007 Fusion with similar issue, but different door!  'rear door behind driver open'  I'm just going to live with it. I've had the car for about 7 years now and it's been fine until this year.  I broke down recently but it was due to an old battery. The breakdown chap couldn't believe I still had the original battery. 

Hi Karen (from Essex ? or just a relation of David ?) and welcome to the Ford Owners Club.

The fault will most probably be the little microswitch inside the rear door lock. They can be replaced but are a real pain to do. You will be able to pick up a door lock from a vehicle recycle centre (scrap yard) for about £15 to £20, or a new one for about £100 + from Ford. The job takes about an hour to do and any small garage should be able to do it.

Having done a bit more research into Ford Fusion models, it looks like the factory fitted alarm was only standard on the Fusion 3. I have a Fusion 2, so I assume it only has the immobiliser, not an alarm. That's one less thing to worry about I suppose!
