What colour paint for kerbed alloys?

Featured Replies

My son has managed to graze one of the wheels on his 2018 grey st-line x fiesta.

I presume I can get some paint to touch them up - can anyone recommend?

Cheers!

I tried it once on a Hyundai, trust me it doesn't work, and believe me I tried really hard, it may look ok at first but it soon looks awful.

In the end I got one of those chips away type companies to fix it on the drive, and hey presto, not only had they removed my attempt but they did a seamless job which lasted.

Lol I think.it depends on what is meant by "graze"!😀

I have used the touch up plus lacquer on small chips on alloys with decent results, on a bigger area, particularly where the wheel has been gouged, no. Like you, had a chips away sort of guy for those. They seem to be getting quite expensive though - or maybe it's just my old brain not keeping up with inflation..

Very true mate  to me even a graze would be devastating

Mine happened in Honley, Yorkshire, pulled up outside the Butchers forgot they have those old fashioned high kerbs, scrunch, a horrible noise.

I should imaging chrome alloys are even harder to touch up. I got the 3 year  alloy wheel and tyre insurance when I bought this Fiesta, the law of Sod will predict I will kerb my wheels 1 day after the 3 years 🙂

Those Fiesta ST'S have some beautiful wheels, that really suit the car well.

I'd bite the bullet and just replace the wheel, I bet a wheel will be about £130, so not cheap, then there's the tyre swap over charge 🤔

Nothing worse every time than looking at a bodged/repaired/painted wheel on your pride & joy.

A repaired wheel will most likely be £60 and the colour match is never spot on, that's why most wheel repairer's recommend doing two wheels on one side.

I used my insurance for 3 wheel repairs 2 weeks before the policy expired and I'd never claimed on it in the 3 years.
A company called DWV (Dent Wizard Ventures) came out in their van and sorted all 3 wheels out in a couple of hours. You can't tell that the wheels had been repaired at all.

Yes that has been my experience.

I am pretty good at DIY and repairing household paint jobs, but when it came to touching up alloys, I thought I could do it, but its so very difficult to repair with touch up paints, and then comes the touch-up of the touch up as you try to improve it.

Also Chrome alloys are a different beast altogether.
