Mk8 1.5 duratorq diesel fuel filter

Featured Replies

Hi all, just has aircon recharge to sort out the ac clutch not engaging snag. Completed most of my own 4 year service, oil, oil filter, cabin and air filter and replaced the brake fluid. Left the dreaded fuel filter until last. I am on a diy car beginner and this is my first diesel so never done a diesel prime before. I have watched some good videos and read some good guides but still not confident.

I have no idea which is the fuel filter inlet and outlet lines. I would have thought there would be some direction of flow arrows on the filter housing or fuel lines but nothing. From what I can gather once you have replaced thr filter you connect up the fuel line to the inlet of the filter, connect the prime bulb and tube to the outlet and draw the diesel through the filter until the air is dispensed from the filter. Then connect the fuel outlet line, turn on the ignition for a bit thenn fire it up. Is this right?

Sounds easy if I knew which fuel line was which? Is there a bleed screw on top the filter bowl by any chance?

Thanks in advance of any help given.

Snips

I previously had 1.6tdci and changed filter. Had major problems getting it running again due to problems bleeding it. I now have 1.5tdci. Not done filter on this car but I seem to think someone posted on here saying 1.5tdci has electric pump to get fuel from tank to high pressure mechanical pump so bleeding not needed. But I might be wrong.

Thanks for your reply Isetta. It would be great if that's the case mines a 67 plate so should be an electric pump then I will crack on and do it. I will put some tape on the fuel lines to identify where they fit. I may just fill the filter bowl with clean diesel also to give it the best chance of firing up.

Can anyone else confirm that the 67 plate 1.5 duratorq diesel has an electric pump and doesn't need to be primed?

Thanks.

this is the post I remember, where iantt says it has elec pump if it is 1.5tdci type 6 emiission level. I think iantt works/worked at a ford dealer (iirc)
