Yellow Spanner warning intermittently

Featured Replies

Hi all! I have recently purchased a pre registered diesel estate focus ST. Everything is great other than for some reason the yellow spanner powertrain malfunction indicator light pops up quite regularly during driving. This stays on for less than a minute but the car will lose its “grunt” until I turn it off and back on again. Ford Dealer is unable to find the fault as the spanner disappears quickly. This must have happened a dozen times in the first 1500 miles now. I was wondering if anyone has the same experience and knew what the fault was? Thanks Adam

Yellow Spanner Warning Intermittently. - Probably an intermittently loose nut (possibly a yellow one) 🤣

On a more serious note how many times has the dealer taken a look at this problem, and have they taken the car out for a test drive and had this happen.?

Once the spanner warning has popped up then a DTC code should be logged. Sometimes on odd occassions the DTC code is not logged (don't know why) but in a case like yours where the fault has occured a number of times I would expect the code to be logged.

Don't let the dealer just keep fobbing you off with excuses. Be nice but point out you are giving them 3 chances to rectify the fault and if they can't fix it then you are rejecting the vehicle. Make sure you put this in writting and keep a copy. If you fail to make this clear to the dealer then they will string you along until either you get sick and go away, or the car breaks down and the fault is then easy to find.

Hi there. They did test drive it and it didn’t happen. It seems to happen on the motorway most when accelerating. Gentle acceleration mind you, I’m not hammering the car. Normally between 60-70 mph. But it’s also happened on a B road at 40 mph. I shall try them again tomorrow then. Nothing came up on the computer apparently when it went in last time but they said they updated the software. You’re right though, I felt fobbed off quite frankly.

Ah!! the old "we updated the software Sir"

Been there, read the book, seen the video and got the Tee shirt. At the end of the day you bought a new car, if you wanted one with random problems there are thousands of used cars on the market and at much less than you will have paid for yours.

Cars are covered by addtional sales legislation, you have to give them 3 chances to fix the same fault or its game over, you give the car back and they give you all your money back.

Next the dealer will look for ways to put the blame on you. "Its your style of driving", "you need to give it time to bed in" etc. etc. etc.

The only issue is it was pre registered. The main dealership has a second hand forecourt next door. I bought the car off them. Although they are the same dealership the guys I’ve bought it from say it’s under warranty so take it next door. Any ideas who I should write to or let them both have it? Don’t get me wrong the car had 11 miles on the clock when I had it. Thanks for your advice too, much appreciated.

Your sale of goods contract is with the garage you bought it from. You have the legal right to return the vehicle to them and get a full refund if they fail to repair the fault in 3 attempts.

They can use the Ford warranty to get the work done if they like but the sales contract is with them.

Speak to your local Consumer Advice Centre, or Trading Standards at your local council.

I am having exactly the same problem now, had a sensor changed on Bank 1 Band 2 and not even 2 hours after driving the yellow spanner came back on. No idea how to resolve this.

Did anyone find a resolution to this? I had my car in today and they replaced the Bank 1 Band 2 sensor. 2 hours later the spanner comes on and im in limp mode, struggling to accelerate

who knows the OP never came back.

Since your profile says you have a 2022 Focus Mk4 then it is under manufactures warranty. All the advice given above will be true for your car, give the garage 3 attempts to fix the problem and if they fail reject the car.

Im having the same issue, intermittent fault. The car did log a code after the light cleared which related to the injectors but this was not the issue.

Did anyone above get any luck ?
