2020 Galaxy TSR problem badly need solution

Featured Replies

Recently purchased a 2020 Galaxy Titanium from Ford Direct and not happy with the way the speed limit display is working.

The display is showing blank for more time than showing a limit and does not appear to be using data from the sat at all, just visual reading of the physical road signs

It shows blank until a new sign is read and then fades out and I can drive for miles with no display, during which time the car will not give overspeed warnings

This seems to be a common problem on later Fords, i previously had a 2018 Galaxy that always showed a speed limit and used satnav data

Today i have test driven a model indentical to mine and its doing the same thing so I can only assume that Ford have changed it to work this way for some strange reason.

What i need to know is can the car be configured to use sat nav data or is there any other fix to make it do so, I really find the car so irritating to drive that i just want to return it.

Any comments or help would be very much appriciated

Chris

Well Chris, if the whole enjoyment of your new car is spoilt by the TSR not working the way you would like it to then I would recommend returning it as it is very unlikely Ford will re-do the software just for your car.

Within fords software on their diag machines there is an option to turn speed limit sat nav data off and have camera recognition only.

I have come a cross a few cars where for whatever reason have turned the nav data off for no apparent reason. I'm wondering if it just needs turning back on

Just got to point out that the day after i picked the car up I was flashed by a speed camera partly because the speed limit display was blank and the visual

system didnt read the speed sign just before the camera, the speed limit on that stretch of road has recently been changed

(I do know the golden rule that its always the drivers responsibity to keep within the speed limit).

So that did spoil the enjoyment of my new car.Nottingham is speed camera crazy, all switched on.

The diagnostic expert says its different software on the new galaxies and it cant be changed, drove an identical car on friday it was the same.

Ended up ordering a decent sat nav which should show speed limits and give overspeed warning

Still think its ***** that functions on the car that rely on a speed limit are unusable for most of the time, have got the option to swap the car for a different model but cant see anyything else in the Ford range I fancy so I will disable the speed limit displays and use the sat nav ones

The TSR works fine on my Focus Mk4, seems to read signs and possibly uses SatNav (don't know for sure) but speed signs always seem correct and are displayed all the time. Flashes the little speed sign if I go more the 4mph over the limit.

If its showing speed limits all the time and they are correct it will be using satnav data,on my Galaxy when you pass a sign , it shows up then starts to fade and will go blank if another sign is not seen within a certain distance. As soon as it starts to fade, the car not longer gives overspeed warnings which make the whole system pretty useless.Beyond me why it is working like this but as its the same on 2 vehicles it must be how it functions on this model.

Just hope that sometime in the future Ford will do something about it if enough Galaxy buyers complain.

I don't believe it, can I have your reg please and I'll investigate everything they've "done" to your car and see if the map data can be activated myself 👍

Does take some believing, car came from Ford Direct, from what i have been told the software is "different" and cannot be configured to work as previous models of the Galaxy did.Whether they  mean cannot or we dont want to,i dont know.

I  have spoken to a local experienced diagnostic company but as soon as I mentioned the year, they said they didnt have the kit to check the car out.

Will be interested in anything you can come up with

Thanks for your interest

That's strange, on your vehicle the app to change nav data is not there but if I look at a 68 plate galaxy I'm currently working on the option is there? I'm not sure if this a fault at Fords end or not

As I said in the first post I previously had an 18 plate that worked fine and before that 15 or 16 plate that was too.

Think there is something diffferent about the 19 plates onwards. If it is impossible to configure it use satnav data on this car at least I can stop looking for an answer and accept that I will have to use the speed limits shown from on  the new sat i have bought.

Did read somewhere that it may be something to do strict camera laws in France and thats why the ford satnavs dont show speed camera locations or give warnings, perhaps it is illegal to show sat nav speed limits there as well ,the article seemed to imply that Ford have adopted a europe wide software spec.

Might be rubbish  but  could explain why the UK galaxies cant be tweaked
