Breathing new life into my Fiesta Mk6

Featured Replies

I’ve recently became the proud owner of a Ford Fiesta Mk6 from 2003 and found this wonderful forum.

Let me tell you a bit about my car, it’s a 3 door model with a 1.25 Engine.

The car itself is in great condition for a it’s age but I want to do a bunch of upgrading to basically breathe new life into it.

I have already retrofitted a new radio with Bluetooth, etc capabilities.

Now my question is can I perform the following retrofits and how much would they cost?

1. Automated headlights on/off.
2. Electric windows (right now I have the old manual windows).
3. Airco (i don’t have airco is it possible to add it?).
4. Central door locking (right now I have to manually open and close with the key).
5. I noticed a button on my dashboard which is to open the boot? Can I add this as well?
6. Front window heater (I only have rear window heater button).
7. Non-manual side mirror adjust.

Thanks ahead!

Pretty much every single one of those retrofits is possible, however the cost most of them will outweigh the value of the car. It would've been much cheaper for you to just buy a mk6 with all that fitted already.

I’ll mostly be doing it as a way to learn how stuff works, what do you estimate the costs at?

I don't have time to go through and itemise each part, but at a rough guess I'd say £200 each (aircon will be more by the time you've paid someone to leak check, vacuum and charge the system). That's for used parts, so probably double the cost for brand new bits.

That’s a bit much isn’t it?

I just checked and got the following results;

Automated headlights will cost me £15 from used parts as I only need the switch and censor.

Electric windows £60 for the parts.

Central locking is £50 pounds.

I will go to a Ford car dump and see if I can salvage more parts for cheap, there are some hidden gems there

Not long ago there was a MK6 Ghia on Ebay, the whole car was just £300, buying that for donor parts would have been such a starting point.

Look for a cheap donor car ?

The shell could be weighed in for scrap.

I did say priced roughly and I don't have time to look each part up. Once you start buying wiring, door cards etc. things will start adding up. Air con will definitely be the most expensive.

The heated windscreen will require it replacing with one with the elements inside too.

The A/C will cost a lot of money as you will need to add all the pluming, both inside the car and in the engine bay, plus the engine changes etc.

Auto lights and wipers were not fitted to this model year of MK6 (they came in on MK6.5), MK6.5 has a completely different electrical and networking system and would require you to change the whole body harness and all modules. (Basically you need to get a donor MK6.5 and swap everything over)

My advice would be to get yourself a MK6.5 ASAP and make sure you get one that has all the equipment you require - A late model (2007-8) 1.25 Zetec Blue is the best one, had everything including Sony Radio
