Lighter/power socket not working, need for sat nav

Featured Replies

Just got myself a 2007 mk6 fiesta style for £650 and would appreciate some help!

The lighter socket is filthy and is not powering my sat nav or anything else I plug in, im assuming because of the dirt it could be stopping contact between the charger and the socket, or maybe a fuse. The car has 140,000 miles and the previous owner said it never worked for them.  Either way I was hoping to do this myself to save some money any was wondering if anyone has done this on their car and has advice how to do this or if I could be linked a reliable part. I've had a quick look on youtube but thought id also ask here,

Thank you!

I had this problem and it was a fuse.

I've had the same on Mum's Fiesta and that too was the fuse. I found a foil sweet wrapper in the socket which would explain the blown fuse !

If the contacts are dirty then it may well just blow the fuse again at some point. I'd perhaps consider replacing the socket (or dismantling it and clean the contacts with some scotch brite if you have the time/patience.

The decal on the back of the glovebox will tell you which fuse. This is from a 2007 1.6 petrol Zetec S, but yours is probably similar
