Ha ha, not sure I'd want the rain! 😆

It's weird, Edinburgh's usually sunnier and more settled than the west, but when there's a really hot spell it's usually coming from the continent with winds from the east and the east coast of Scotland is much cooler than further west. Right now it's 26c in the Great Glen but only 16c in Aberdeen!

Rain and midges …I need to emigrate

They say Dundee is the sunniest place in Scotland but also the drug death capital of Europe! Can’t have it all I guess.. 🤔

I get the impression that these can be very good if you can take advantage of BIK tax breaks and your driving routine suits. I've seen a few reviews of this (and the technically similar Cupra Leon) which mention that the performance is there but only if you manage to keep the battery charged - otherwise you're down to 148ps and carrying the extra weight of the battery and electric motor. Several reviewers have commented that the battery seems to get depleted remarkably rapidly.

If it’s a short journey then electric mode. Very short …like 30miles at best.  They also charge when braking (that can be turned on and off) . Hybrid mode is probably what I’d use mainly. Like most hybrids it knows when’s best to use battery or ICE or both. Anyway the advance payment is over £3k . Whereas now the id3 is considerably less.
The 1.4 engine is around 150ps , but with the battery 240ps. That , like u say depends on the battery being charged.

Usual apology to OP here as we've gone way off topic as normal!😀.

Yes, that's a good point Alex and it's not always made very clear in reviews of PHEV's - that if you don't plug in it still operates as normal hybrid. A lot of reviews give the impression that you can only charge via the mains and once that is depleted you're looking for a charger. I also suspect that the battery gets depleted faster for certain car reviewers than it might for a "normal" user, and when you use it regularly you'd soon get the hang of managing the modes to best advantage.

Some very interesting deals on the ID 3 at the moment, as you also say.

I thought this was in my thread... :ermm:  Just spent ages wondering why I couldn't find the below post in my started threads!

it’s the GTE I’m really interested in apart from the everything thru touchscreen situation. Which I think the id3 suffers from too.
It’s a 1.4L engine with a electric motor too. The interior does look a lot better than the mk7 ones I’ve seen. Performance wise it’s not far off a GTI and economically better than the GTD.

I've now seen a few Mk8 Golf 'Actives' on Autotrader built and ready to go.  16" alloys and a bit more spec than the Life.  Might be a potential contender for me...  Can't find them on the MB site though, in fact, there are only 4 choices of Golf on there!?  2x 1.0 Life's, a mild hybrid and the GTE.  Due to build shortages I guess?  How often do they update the MB site?

I thought quarterly but seems much more frequently. There’s now 2 Golfs only. A hybrid and the hybrid GTE. But the id3 AP has plummeted! No AP on the base model and just over a grand for the MAX PRO. Good on motability! I’ve been thinking for months they need to give incentives for going EV. Financially that’ll do me.  I still want the GTE though!
Tom , are you eligible now?

Also the GTE new cost the same as the A Class 250e £36k or there abouts. Mercedes want 6k AP…smh

Not eligible yet but review coming up soon and may qualify this time.  I was just surprised at how poor the MB choice was since I last checked.  Will have to keep checking if it's changing that often though!

£6k is ridiculous for an AP.  Can't be many eligible that could afford that!!
