Engine malfunction light

Featured Replies

Evening.

I have a 2008 Fiesta 1.6 TDCi.

Today, my Engine Malfunction Light came on. Car feels absolutely fine, no limp mode, no loss of power.

I put and EGR blanking plate on 8th of June on the car, drove it without a single issue.

When connected to a OBD reader it says that everything is fine and I have no codes whatsoever.

I'm at a complete loss here, because as opposed to other topics I found on here, my car doesn't go into limp mode.

Does anyone have any idea what could be going on?

What reader did you use? Ideally you need modified Elm327 lead and forscan on a laptop so you can read all the Ford specific codes (which might be what you have considering you can't read them atm).

I do have a ELM327 to USB dongle, but didn't use forscan.

Will try that tomorrow as I'm on a Mac (laptop wise), so gotta do some magic.

So, an update.

I couldn't get Forscan to connect with my ELM, apparently it's a bad clone.

So, still can't read what it is and one of the two mechanic shops near me says that he sees no codes as well, but not with Forscan and the other doesn't have a reader at all...

Thanks for that, I'll look into it.

In the mean time, I scanned it with Autocom and Delphi software, it found this.

Cooling Fan 2 Control Circuit Malfunction

P0481 is a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) for "Cooling Fan 2 Control Circuit Malfunction". It means there is a problem with the control circuit for cooling fan 2. The PCM controls the cooling fan by grounding the cooling fan control circuit which turns ON the cooling fan relay.

So if you ground the side of the relay thats connected to the PCM, then the cooling relay should click and turn on, and the fan should run.
My guess is the relay will be faulty and the fan won't turn on.
