Fuel Smell

Featured Replies

HI

For the past couple of weeks I have been able to smell fuel in my car when running and lately when it isn't running. The smell appears to be coming from the filler neck area and was particularly strong after a good drive the other day, this was around the offside rear arch.

I have taken it to my local garage who has checked for leaks and says they cant see any. I am dropping it back there on Tuesday when the son is back who is a bit more clued up on Fords.

In the mean time does any one have any ideas or perhaps they might have come across this before?

If you instinctively feel it's from the filler neck area, it's a very likely suspect. On my old Celica GT4 I also had a strong smell of fuel there, on dismantling to see what was wrong, this was found! I'm not sure though that such a 'new' car would have such corrosion, but I would trust your instinct until proved otherwise... (Oh, if you smoke, give it up till all sorted LOL)

Thanks @StephenFord I've a feeling something has become dils-lodged or a seal gone.

I don't smoke anymore thankfully but I do wonder about somewhere parking up next to me and flicking a cigarette down 🤔
