Ford Fiesta 2016 spare wheel advice needed!

Featured Replies

I bought a new fiesta back in 2016, and didn't realise until after I received the car that there was no spare wheel included. Ever since then I've been meaning to buy one, but have never got around to it. Up to now I've only really been using my car for small commutes to work, but due to a new job I'm going to be doing more long distance journeys so it really is time I get a spare wheel fitted in case of a tyre puncture.

I'm not really sure what to buy though. I have 16 inch alloys, the tyres are 195/50/16.

On eBay the very same alloys that are fitted on my car are for sale used for around £80 including the tyre (although I would likely have a new tyre fitted). Would this fit in the wheel well? It would be great to have the peace of mind of being able to just fit another wheel and not have to worry about speed restrictions of space saver wheels, but I'm not sure if this is an option or not. If I do need to go with a space saver wheel, what size should it be?

Thanks!

You can put a full size wheel in the well, but the boot floor will sit proud and wobble on the wheel. You can of course pack it up an inch or so with some wood etc, but I wouldn't say it's worth it when you can just slap a space saver in there that will fit perfectly. Space saver tyre size is 125/80/R15 (although if you just search for Fiesta mk7 space saver on eBay you'll get loads come up).

The Fiesta my wife drives has the same size tyres as yours and due to doing regular 120 mile uni runs I had a 15 inch full size steel wheel fitted with a tyre so it was the correct  size as the 16 inch alloys and sourced a jack and wheel brace from a scrap yard which was unused 😊 and made a false floor for the boot out of mdf and some timber.

This thread is for the Mk8, but there's lots of good info there. I'd go for the space saver- building your boot floor up with wood or whatever is just nuts IMO!
