Mystery problem draining battery

Featured Replies

I have a 2007 1600cc Mk VI five door auto and sometimes when I switch off the ignition I can hear a light clicking or ticking sound! Absolutely everything is turned off! Has anyone any idea of what this could be? It seems to coincide with a mystery drain of my battery!

I greatly appreciate any help that anyone can give me, thanks.

It is that long since I posted to this forum that my details show owning a Mondeo, that is incorrect, I now own a Fiesta.

First, has your battery been tested ?

I had the battery and alternator tested by my garage two months ago and both were given a clean bill of health. I really think that the noise that I described that I hear sometimes has something to do with it! As I understand it the Battery, alternator, and starter motor are electrically connected and so I was wondering if it is to do with the starter motor!

Thanks for your reply.

Never trust a garage who says the battery is fine! Did you see them check it ? On our car the battery was going dead after the car was 2 years old, Ford checked the battery and said its fine, it wouldn't hold its charge, if I'd play the stereo for half hour and then try to start the engine it would be dead, so I'd have to charge it up for 2 hours, enough was enough, so took the car to a a very good car parts supplier and they checked the battery over, several cells was split and had dried up, I fitted a high quality battery and it never goes dead, that must be 6 years ago now.

Ian, Thanks for your answer. I have been using this garage for six years and they have always been fine. Normally the battery is great, but three time since I have had

the battery fitted (a Bosch type 063) I have had the mystery of the battery going flat, the only 'clue' is that I have heard the clicking/ticking noise I have described! Could it be the starter solenoid draining the battery? I say this because the battery, alternator, and starter motor are all connected on the 'circuit'.

Thank you Ian.

How long does it take for the battery to discharge?

How old is the Fiesta ? Is it a genuine battery, fitted from new ?
