Misfire at low speed part two

Featured Replies

Further to previous post in June: After 3 weeks of running with cleaned pcv valve, the power loss started to creep back. I purchased new pcv valve and hose and began to tackle the job.

As before: moved sensor out of way from inlet. Using my newly purchased long nose hose pliers, reached between inlet pipes and pulled hose off both ends no bother.

Ah! I thought, this going far too smoothly, I bet this valve is going to be a pig to remove. Using my long shafted mole grips, I adjusted them to size of pcv barrel by using the new replacement as a guide. Popped it over the old valve and locked grips and it came out sweet as. Inserted new valve with hose attached at valve end with grips and long screwdriver to ease fitment.  More fiddly but easier than trying to fit the hose afterwards.

Refit sensor and screw with t20 driver. Start engine and remove oil filler cap. Placed a rubber glove tightly around oil filler and watched to see if it inflated. No! Brilliant! Only negative pressure in the crankcase now, exactly what we need.

Total time 25 minutes. I'm an old geezer so not as quick as you young guys. Total cost: £25 genuine Ford parts and £15 total for hose and mole grips. Ford want 4 hours plus! They remove inlet manifold etc. Not necessary.

For some reason site won't accept my jpeg pictures of tools used but I'm sure you know what I mean.

Regards Ragtopman
