Focus 1.6 TDCI - Fixing after cam belt failure - Runs with possible misfire

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I wondered if anyone might be able to advise on a few questions to do with a 2012 Ford Focus TDCI.

Unfortunately, the cam belt teeth shredded, supposedly the belt had been changed 5,000 miles ago but apparently not. I took the camshaft out and found the four rocker arms on the exhaust valves / lifters had been shattered. So, I cleared all the debris and replaced the  roller rockers. The car has started but it runs very lumpy, no smoke or anything but when you throttle the car it does not rev very high. Is this misfiring or a loss of compression?

The next step would be to change the lifters and take the head off to replace valves. Not sure if it is really worth it but wanted to ask if anyone had ideas of what could be wrong as the car has started but is not running very well?

I was also wondering does the fuel pump have any specific timing or is it controlled by the ECU in the TDCI engines?

It's the Peugeot / Citroen diesel 1.6

Any thoughts or advice would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

Tom
