Need help, my mondeo started leaking coolant badly. Got home, looked underneath & there was lots of coolant dripping. Poured about 3l of water in it. Started engine again to see where it was leaking from. Guess what, it stopped. Cant find it now & now i dont trust driving it. Any ideas? Would say it was about water pump area, but as i say not leaking any more to find it. Asking for advise. Thank you

Any idea guys?

Not something we can easily diagnose over the internet unfortunately.

Two choices here - either get a pressure tester and put the system under pressure to force the leak.  Or run it up until the engines hot again (taking care to top up any air that's bled out and keeping an eye on the temp) in the hope that that forces the leak.

Got it booked in hopefully for friday, just dont understand why it stopped. Wasnt a slow leak, it was a fast dripping leak. Now stopped so now unsure of car. Had it a run a few timee to see if it will happen again. Bt no joy, so cant trust it for longer runs in case it happens again on moterway.

Water pump gasket finally started to fail on my 2005 Focus 1.8 TDCi at 174K miles, it also only leaked once up to temperature.  Until the coolant was nice and hot, there wasn't sufficient pressure in the system to overwhelm the gasket.  Realistically, as mentioned by @TomsFocus, your best bet would getting a garage to pressure test the system so they can find the leak.

Hi your cooling fan may have failed and boiled the water out through the bottle , the pink wire on them breaks,  also the coolent cap can become a bit of a loose fit over time also , another idea is your water pump is hanging in there but only working well when accelerating and weak when foot is off throttle heating things up,  might be neither but something to look at

Got it booked in this week to get water pump changed, will let car run tomorrow and see if fan comes on to see if that could be the problem. Dont think it boiled over, but Might be the case if fan didnt come on...

Sorry, death in family so local garage couldnt take it in, was changing the trailing arms and links. Pressure test held. Ni leak showing. Very odd, so still gona change pump just in case so i can have some trust back in the engine. Will update when done. Thank you for your thoughts. Logical things to check.
