MK8 ST clunking noise

Featured Replies

I have been noticing for a while a clunking noise that occurs at low speeds when making sharp turns in my MK8 Fiesta ST. The car seems completely fine when driving at speed it only seems to make the noise at slower speeds when turning almost on full lock. There is no sound when braking or accelerating in a straight line. It seems to make the sound when pulling away from uphill t junctions or when stopping the car on, or near, full steering lock to reverse park.

I read another forum where someone explained that there is a known issue with the steering racks on the MK8. it mentioned that Ford had updated the steering column in newer cars to address this issue. The part number for my steering column ends in BD which I believe is one of the problematic ones. I also sometimes here the clicking noise that others have experienced when turning the wheel which clearly comes from inside the cabin and is likely this issue that Ford is aware of. I think the clunking noise is a separate issue however. It sounds like its coming from the front suspension somewhere. I suspect it is a lower suspension arm or a drive shaft CV joint. Just wanted to know if anyone else had experienced the same thing? I am going to jack the car up tomorrow and take the wheels off to have a good look and see if any of the suspension components are loose.

Car is 3 years old with 31k miles. Thanks in advance for any advice.

my 2019 mk8 fiesta st (35k miles on the clock) is experiencing exactly the same issue. ive been in correspondence with Ford for weeks with numerous inspection visits. ive just had new top mounts fitted to the front struts last week (23rd September) the garage have been very helpful but it seems there's no logged faults on their system at the moment regarding this. But I do think it's the rack at fault on my car. But I'm no mechanic lol.

I've just called Ford today to say the replaced top mounts haven't solved the issue. I've even forwarded this thread to the service manager to show other people are experiencing similar issues

I'll write back with an update if I get anywhere

Check the side skirts ear the front wing. I have a similar problem on my 2018 titanium fiesta and i have a loose bolt/spring that is making the noise.

Here's some videos that I made regarding this issue:

I'm going to deliver my car on Wednesday to fix it.
